The Cipher Machine is a puzzle you’ll find in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s Himalayas during “A Harsh Climb.” As you climb through the frozen KMS Kummetz, you’ll eventually reach the Officer Lounge where you’ll find a locked door and a (disassembled) cipher machine that helps you find the code.
Our Indiana Jones and the Great Circle guide will show you how to solve the Cipher Machine puzzle, including the code for the solution.
How to start the Cipher Machine puzzle
You’ll reach the Officer Lounge of the KMS Kummetz toward the end of your time aboard(?) the warship. It’s along the main path, so you can’t miss it. After you reach the deck and punch a bunch of Nazis, you’ll head back inside and climb a ladder. The Officer Lounge is right at the top.
There’re a lot of parts to this puzzle. Starting with the door you walk through, you’ll find the Captain’s Code at the end of the table. The word on it is — JÖGM. Note the umlaut over the O. That’ll be important in a second.
At the other end of the table, check the Code Table. You can’t keep it, but we’ll be back for it in a second.
Check the shelves to the right to find the disassembled Cipher Machine. You’ll find another Code Table and four Code Wheels.
Cipher Machine code and puzzle solution
The first step in solving the Cipher Machine puzzle is to place the Code Wheels in the lunchbox-shaped machine on the shelf.
For the order, you’re looking for the letters from the Captain’s Code — JÖGM. Each of those letters only appear on one wheel. For the Ö, make sure you grab the one with the umlaut. Place them into the machine in order.
Once all of the Code Wheels are in place, close the lid of the Cipher Machine. Now you can spin the wheels to show JÖGM across the top row.
The next code you need will be across the bottom row — BLUT. When you take this word to the Code Table on the table (not the one next to the machine), you’ll find a numeric code — 3666.
Turn around to find the locked door. Spin in the code to unlock it and you’ll find the way out.
