Japanese games giant Capcom saw its net sales dip by 24.7 per cent for the first half of its financial year.
The firm brought in ¥56.4 billion ($368 million) for the period, while its operating income dropped ¥38.7 per cent to ¥20.7 billion ($135 million). Of its total net sales, ¥39.7 billion ($259.7 million) – or 70.2 per cent – came from its video games business.
Capcom sold 20.02 million games during the first half of the year, an 11.4 per cent decrease year-on-year. PC was responsible for 54 per cent of the company’s total unit sales.
New games clocked in at just 1.1 million, while back catalogue clocked in at 18.95 million or 94.6 per cent of sales.
The company says the decrease in sales year-on-year was in part due to the fact that it launched Street Fighter 6 in the first half of its previous financial year which makes for a slightly unfair comparison as Capcom didn’t have anything similar out in this same period. The firm primarily released remasters and repackaged older titles as its new titles.
Capcom doesn’t want its shareholders to worry, however, insisting that the bulk of its sales are going to take place in the second half of the 2025/25 financial year.
