Available from Tuesday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 3, it offers encounters with Morpeko and Spiritomb, the first opportunity to catch costumed Froakie and Rowlet, and a triple catch Candy bonus — a boost over the standard double catch Candy bonus you’d otherwise receive during the event.
There is also a choice to be made as part of this branching quest — the Full Belly mode path or Hangry mode path — which results in a different avatar item reward based on Morpeko’s two forms.
‘Morpeko Onesie’ Timed Research quest steps
This quest has two steps, with a branching path choice to be made in the middle. Thanks to LeekDuck with helping fill in the gaps with the following.
‘Morpeko Onesie’ step 1 of 2
Rewards: 500 XP, 500 Stardust
At this point, you will choose between the “Fully Belly mode” or “Hangry mode.”
You can read our thoughts on which to pick in the next section — otherwise, the steps that follow for both choices are:
‘Morpeko Onesie: Fully Belly mode’ (step 2 of 2)
Rewards: Morpeko Onesie [Full Belly mode] avatar item, 1 Poffin, Morpeko encounter
‘Morpeko Onesie: Hangry mode’ (step 2 of 2)
Rewards: Morpeko Onesie [Hangry mode] avatar item, 1 Poffin, Morpeko encounter
Choose a path outcomes: Should you choose Fully Belly mode or Hangry mode?
The choice in this “choose a path” research is simple — do you want the Full Belly mode Morpeko Onesie avatar item, or the Hangry mode one?
If you weren’t aware, Morpeko has two modes which it can change between mid-battle, and these avatar items represent those two forms. By completing the quest steps, you can have the choice of one or the other. Avatar items are entirely cosmetic, so it’s all about personal preference over which you prefer.
If you want both, you can purchase the other onesie in the in-game shop for 400 PokéCoins (around $4). This means with this ticketed research, you are buying (with real-world funds) one avatar item, and can use in-game currency for the one you didn’t choose.
If you’re not too fussed about the avatar item reward, there’s a lot more to this research quest than that — including encountering Halloween costume versions of Froakie and Rowlet ahead of their debut in Halloween Part 2, as well as easy ways to encounter additional Morpeko and Spiritomb.
