Astro Bot might not have set the world on fire, but the hype for Team Asobi’s follow-up to the stunning Astro’s Playroom was definitely real. It’s been in the top-five in sales charts in the US, in the EU and in the UK.
And according to GamesIndustry.Biz’s Chris Dring, it’s done better than pretty much every other 3D platformer for the last decade. At least ones that don’t feature a plumber in blue overalls.
Responding to comments from those debating Astro Bot’s success on Twitter, Dring said “It did more than that across Europe alone. But it can only play in the market it’s in. Astro Bot has done better than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years (Mario aside).”
“Its true success won’t be known for years, but it’s had a strong start for the genre,” he adds. Hopefully Astro Bot’s strong start continues, as it’s easily one of the best games in the genre and definitely deserves its success.
