Archetypes are the class system in in Metaphor: ReFantazio, with each one determining the skills an abilities available to you. Over the course of the game, you can invest in them more deeply to grow their power and expand their skillsets as you upgrade them.
Each Archetype revolves around a general playstyle or traditional RPG “job,” and as you progress, you will slowly unlock all 40+ of them throughout your journey across the United Kingdom of Euchronia. Some are unique, while others are advanced forms of a broader job category, such as the Mage, which then leads into the Wizard, Elemental Master, and Warlock Archetypes.
Initially, you will only have access to a few Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio, but your collection will quickly grow. In this in-progress Metaphor: ReFantazio guide, we’ll show you how to unlock all Archetypes we’ve unlocked so far.
How to unlock new Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio
You unlock Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio by growing your bonds with other party members and your other social links throughout Euchronia. Enhanced Archetypes that expand one’s skillset can be unlocked by growing these bonds further and leveling up the base archetypes in a category (usually to the max level of 20). You will also need a hefty amount of MAG too.
Simply battling enemies will level up your Archetype as you play, and you can collect MAG from battles and locations throughout the towns you visit, like shops and alleys. MAG can also be obtained from converting money at the relevant vendor that offers the service throughout the game’s many locations.
These higher-end upgrades will take a lot of grinding and time to be able to obtain, and you will need multiple playthroughs to properly level up each Archetype. Read on to see how to unlock all of the Archetypes we’ve unlocked so far, or use this table of contents to navigate directly to the Archetype you’re interested in.

The Merchant class is a unique class, utilising skills that spend your money to deal damage. While a pricy choice, it can be incredibly effective in ways other classes are unable to be. This requires you to speak to her outside her shop in the city, reach Wisdom 2, and complete the A Bullish Embargo side quest.
This is quite tough at this point in the game, although possible at around level 9-11. Once you return to Grand Trad from your trip on this quest, you will befriend her and get access to the Archetype.
The Tycoon is the final, much more advanced form of the Merchant. To obtain it, you need to reach Rank 20 with the Merchant and Rank 10 with the Commander. Additionally, it will cost you 24,000 MAG to equip it on each character for the first time.

This can be done upon turning in all relics and then completing the Petty Thief quest which can be picked up at the Recruitment Center in Grand Trad.
The Thief is a rather unique Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio, unlike a lot of the early-game Archetypes. To unlock it, you will need to befriend Heismay and reach bond Rank 1. This happens about a month after the game starts (in-game calendar) on 07/04.
As this is a basic Archetype, no additional requirements are needed beyond spending MAG to equip it for your different party members.

The General Archetype is unlocked upon reaching Rank 3 with Bardon’s bond. This involves talking to him a couple of days after you talk to him late in the 07 month to upgrade his bond to Rank 2.
It is the enhanced form of the Commander, requiring you to get that Archetype to Rank 20. You will also need to hand over 11,700 MAG to purchase it for each character.
The final form of the Commander is the Warlord. Thirsty for battle, you will need to have fought a lot of enemies to upgrade the General Archetype to Rank 20 and get the 32,000 MAG needed to purchase it.
Additionally, you have to rank Bardon’s bond up to Rank 8. This can be done on a free day late in the 09 month after already reaching bond rank 7.
The Faker Archetype is another one that can be unlocked in Matira. It requires an Imagination level of 2 in order to complete the relevant quest: A Dagger, A Ring, and a Rake from Alonzo in Thoroughfare Square.

This can happen on Virga Island on a free day after the events at the Dragon God Temple, quite far into the game.
The Devil Summoner is an enhanced form of the basic Summoner, although it requires more investment than your typical advanced Archetype. This is because you will need to reach rank 20 with the Summoner and rank 10 with the Magic Seeker. Unlocking it will also cost you 28,500 MAG.
Finally, you will also need to ensure you have reached Rank 6 with Eupha’s bond. This can be fond by simply speaking to her again and again after initially befriending her — waiting a day between each rank up.
The Berserker Archetype is unlocked once you befriend Basilio and talk to him on the Gauntlet Runner. This will level up his bond to Rank 1 and allow you to purchase the class and equip it for any of your party members.
