Fortnite giant Epic Games is releasing its new unified asset marketplace, Fab, next month.
The company announced this move in a blog post, which details this platform’s unification of Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace and Quixel. From Fab’s launch in October until the end of 2024, Epic is sharing 100 per cent of revenue of any items sold on the platform. From the start of 2025 onwards, publishers will receive 88 per cent of revenue, as with the Epic Games Store.
From mid-September – so now I guess? – those already publishing on the Unreal Engine Marketplace will be invited to migrate to Fab, while in early October Sketchfab can migrate. At that point, other publishers can on board. All of this is before the platform’s release in mid-October.
Fab won’t just have assets for Unreal; the platform will support Unity, too, as well as other engines in the future.
“We’ll keep adding advanced features, new content, and integrations with first- and third-party content creation tools,” Epic wrote.
“As Fab continues to develop we plan to introduce new file formats including Minecraft and Roblox assets, access to MetaHumans, a new ratings and review system, product FAQs, and new analytics to enhance the publisher experience.”
