Grabbing a new Umbra in Towerborne opens up a whole new bag of tricks to play with in your battles. One of the first Umbras you will be required to summon with a puzzle is Sten, the small Grasslands critter in Towerborne. Here’s how to do it.
How to unlock Sten
This puzzle may have you stumped when you first arrive and try to work out how to summon the Umbra. All you see is a few cows, bunches of flowers, and an NPC who is of absolutely no help at all. However, the clues are all right there if you know where to look. All you have to do is pet the cows in the right order to unlock the Umbra in Towerborn.
Look at the cows around the map, and you should notice that the flowers they’re eating are numbered. Some of them have more, and some have less. The secret to unlocking Sten in The Grasslands is to pet the cows in order, with the number of flowers they’re enjoying marking their number. Pet them in this order:
- Second Right
- Far Left
- Second Left
- Far Right
- Third Right
Pet the cows in this order. Sten the Grasslands Towerborne Umbra will appear in the shrine in the middle. You will know you’re getting the order right by the hearts appearing over the cows’ heads when you pet them. If they don’t show hearts, the order is wrong, and you will have to start again.
I found that if I got the order wrong, I would have to back out of the challenge completely and start again. This is pretty annoying, but hopefully, the team will sort it out.
How to use the Sten Umbra
It took me a little while to learn to use this Umbra compared to Iska, the first one in Towerborne. The fact that it isn’t a projectile-based attack makes it a little more complex. However, once I mastered it, it was incredibly valuable.
Sten creates an stationary zone of damage and knockback. This needs to be strategically planted, and used to draw enemies in. I found that the best way to use it was to draw enemies into my location, waiting until they got as close as possible. Then drop Stens attack, and dodge roll away.
I was often able to catch 4+ enemies in the AoE. I found this attack to be particularly helpful against boss fights as it can even trap the higher-level enemies, giving time to either throw in a couple of extra blows or take down the smaller enemies without disturbance.
Once you have your new Umbra, make sure your weapons are upgraded to match in Towerborne.
