Battlefield 2042’s seasonal content is coming to an end
As announced on the Battlefield website, Season 7: Turning Point will be the final “official season” added to Battlefield 2042. Once Season 7 ends, the Battlefield teams will be turning their attention to the next game in the series. We can still expect new in-game challenges, events, modes, and general maintenance to continue, however, so Battlefield 2042 isn’t being dropped completely; we’ll just not be getting the mass shake-ups that come with the big seasonal updates, and most likely, battle passes.
“We know this news may be disappointing. However, as we looked at what the future of the series required, it became clear it was time for us to shift our resources and focus to be fully dedicated to what comes next,” the blog reads. “As I’ve mentioned in previous updates, we have an ambitious vision to embrace and unlock the vast potential of the series’ class-based squadplay and immersive, intense battles.”
The news comes alongside the announcement that Dead Space remake developer Motive Studio has put together a dedicated Battlefield team to work alongside DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect on the next Battlefield games. In a blog post on Motive’s website, the developer says the team will be working alongside the Battlefield studios around the world creating what’s next for Battlefield — a universe across both multiplayer and single-player experiences. Their proven expertise in storytelling, immersive battles, and developing on the Frostbite engine uniquely positions them to help advance the vision for Battlefield.”
Although a portion of the team is moving over to Battlefield, Motive Studio says its Iron Man project is still moving forward and has “made excellent progress this year, hitting a major internal milestone and laying a robust foundation for the journey ahead.”
Last month, EA announced that it was switching its focus to its biggest IPs, laid off around 5% of its workforce, canceled Respawn Entertainment’s FPS Star Wars game, and shuttered Battlefield studio Ridgeline Games.
