The director of Destiny 2, Joe Blackburn, is leaving that position in the near future.
In a post on Twitter, the developer said that he was leaving Bungie and that Tyson Green would be taking over next month. Green is a Bungie vet who has worked at the company since 1998’s Myth 2 and is credited on the firm’s old flagship franchise, Halo, working on every single entry in the franchise developed by the studio.
Blackburn, meanwhile, initially joined Bungie as a raid designer in 2015. Four years later he was promoted to creative lead, before departing the company to join League of Legends maker Riot Games as a principal designer in 2019.
In 2020 he returned to Bungie as Destiny 2’s game director. There’s no word yet as to where Blackburn is off to next.
“As a deeply invested Guardian before starting here at Bungie, getting to be a part of the Destiny 2 team has been the privilege of a lifetime,” he wrote.
“I am and will forever remain a lifelong Bungie fan and believer in what the teams within its walls are capable of.
“I’ve still got some time before I pass the torch, but as I look forward to taking a big break from social media, I know I’ll see y’all around the Tower. It is going to be great to play Destiny alongside all of you.”
