December 6 ushers in an enormous wave of Xbox delistings. Last month, Sega announced it’s delisting 12 Xbox games from the Microsoft Store, including some absolute classics.
Out of the 12 games to be removed from sale, the following nine titles are digital-only releases: Altered Beast, NiGHTS into dreams…, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter 2, Shinobi, Sega: Vintage Collection: Golden Axe, Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl, Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage, and Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World. If you want these specific versions of these games, you will need to buy them before they’re delisted and gone for good.
The next delisting is a big one. Due to expiring licenses, Microsoft is delisting Forza Horizon 4 on December 15 from the Microsoft Store and the Game Pass library. Forza Horizon 4 did get a physical release, so not all is lost here if you don’t buy it before it’s delisted, but if you want to play either of Forza Horizon 4’s expansions, you’ll definitely want to purchase those before December 15.
If you’re quick, you can pick up a digital copy of Forza Horizon 4: Ultimate Edition for cheap in the Xbox Black Friday Sale 2024 — the sale ends on December 3, so you’ll need to be quick.
Publisher GameMill is delisting G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout, and one of the worst Xbox games of 2021, Nerf Legends, on December 31. Both games here did receive physical releases, so you should still be able to track them down after they’ve been removed from the store.
On top of GameMill’s end-of-year delisting shenanigans, Motorsport Games will also be removing several NASCAR titles and their DLC packs from digital storefronts on the same date. Although Motorsport’s announcement is a little unclear in terms of which specific titles will be removed from sale, it looks like NASCAR Heat 3, NASCAR Heat 4, NASCAR Heat 5, and NASCAR 21: Iginition will all be delisted from the Xbox store on December 31. Motorsport says it will be running “various platform promotions” in December for its games.
Elsewhere in the sad world of Xbox delistings and server closures, there are three Xbox server closures planned for December 2024.
